Somerset Work Your Way

A simple way to explore tools that make using your computer easier

Welcome to Somerset Work Your Way

This hub brings together simple guides and tools to help you use your computer in a way that works for you.

We know technology can feel overwhelming, especially if you need adjustments. If you are not sure what is available or where to start these guides are here to make things clearer.

These guides are for everyone, but can be especially helpful if you are neurodivergent or have a disability. Small changes can help anyone work more comfortably, whether that is improving focus, reducing eye strain, or making everyday tasks easier.

The types of guides in this hub are grouped into five key areas:

  1. Visual tools – change how your screen looks, or allow the computer to read the screen aloud
  2. Hearing tools – change the volume or replace sounds with visual alternatives for notifications, videos and online calls
  3. Mobility tools – these tools allow you use your computer differently if you have trouble typing or using a mouse
  4. Focus, planning and spelling tools – reduce distractions, read and write more easily, keep on top of your tasks
  5. Mental health tools – reduce the stress and overwhelm of using a computer

Most of the tools we cover in these guides are included in Windows, or are available free of cost. Some of the more advanced tools require a subscription. We recommend trying the built-in and free versions first to see how the help you.
