BETA This playbook is in BETA, we think it’s good enough to be useful right now, but there are gaps that need filling – your feedback will help us to improve it.

Why we use AI

We sometimes use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to help us create or improve information on our website.

AI can help us:

  • make complex information clearer
  • write in plain English
  • organise content so it’s easier to read
  • summarise long documents
  • create drafts that our staff can improve

AI helps us work more efficiently, but it never replaces human judgement.

A human always checks the content

Anything AI helps us create is reviewed and approved by a member of council staff before it appears on our website.

We never let AI publish information automatically.

We make sure information is correct

We always:

  • check facts, dates, policies, and details
  • make sure the information matches our current services
  • correct anything unclear or inaccurate

If you spot an error, please let us know and we will fix it as soon as possible.

Privacy comes first

We do not put personal, sensitive, or confidential information into AI tools.

We only use AI in ways that protect privacy and follow data protection laws.

We keep our website accessible

We make sure AI-assisted content still meets accessibility standards, including:

  • clear, simple language
  • headings and layout that are easy to navigate
  • alt text for meaningful images
  • avoiding unnecessary PDFs

Our goal is to make sure everyone can use our website, including people who use assistive technology.

We check for fairness and bias

AI can sometimes produce content that is biased or unfair.

We always review and edit content to make sure it:

  • treats everyone fairly
  • avoids stereotypes
  • is inclusive of all residents in our community

What we don’t use AI for

To keep our information trustworthy and safe, we do not use AI to:

  • write new policies or legal notices
  • make decisions about residents
  • handle personal or sensitive information
  • provide professional advice (like legal or financial advice)
